A11Y Checker — Privacy policy

Last updated: 23 October 2026 (anonymous usage statistics added)

A11Y Checker is a browser extension that checks web pages for accessibility problems. It is built to work entirely in your browser.

What the extension reads

When you scan a page, A11Y Checker reads that page's content and styles in your browser to test it against WCAG. It only reads a page after you start a scan or allow the site through Chrome's permission prompt.

What it stores

Your scans, decisions (Pass, Fail, N/A), comments, report choices and reading-font setting are saved in your browser's local extension storage. They stay on your device until you close a scan or remove the extension.

What it sends

By default, nothing. A11Y Checker has no accounts and no servers of its own. Page addresses, page content, results and comments are never transmitted, sold or shared.

Anonymous usage statistics (only if you agree)

After your first scan, A11Y Checker asks whether you want to share anonymous usage statistics. If you choose Share usage, it sends short events about how the extension itself is used, for example "a scan finished", "an issue was opened", "a PDF was exported", "the scan failed", or a rough count of issues (such as "6–20"). This helps find features nobody uses and places where people get stuck.

Each event includes the extension version, browser version, operating system, interface language and a random ID created when you agree. The ID is not linked to your name, email, Google account or device, and it is deleted if you turn sharing off.

Never included: the address or title of any page you scan, page content, element code, your comments or feedback text, or anything you type. Location lookup from the network address is switched off.

Events are sent in batches to PostHog (PostHog Inc.), stored in the European Union, and used only to improve A11Y Checker. You can turn sharing on or off at any time under Aa in the panel.

Exports (PDF and JSON) are files you create and share yourself. If you use the Feedback form, it opens your own email app with a message you can read and edit before you choose to send it; only what you send is received.

Permissions

A11Y Checker asks Chrome for access to a site only when you scan it, so it can keep working as you move between that site's pages. You can remove that access at any time in Chrome's extension settings.
